The Pilates chair is a fun, compact piece of classic equipment designed to provide a full body workout with spring based resistance. The chair comes in a few different configurations. At SP we have a combo chair which is a wonderful mix between the classic high chair & wunda chair. The chair is amazing for challenging the balance, stability, control & strength. It's also great for picking up any imbalances in the body with a strong focus on symmetry & alignment.

Here are a just a few of the classical exercises on the Pilates chair....

  • Going up front

  • Going up side

  • Tendon stretch

  • Pull up

  • Mountain climbers

  • Teaser

  • Mermaid

  • Pushups

  • Footwork

I always like to add a few extras that I feel are amazing for the deep core, stability & balance.

  • Scooters

  • Pull ups

  • Tricep dips

  • Hip & hamstring stretches

  • One leg press standing front & side

  • Pike/ shoulder stand

  • Adding arm weights or ankle weights

At SP we often use the Pilates chair towards the end of a studio workout when the body is warm & moving with control & focus. The chair can be modified for basic levels to advance & there are specific exercises that are suitable for pre & postnatal workouts.

The chair is a fun piece of equipment - perfect for a challenging dynamic workout!
